    Sounds like you lost some warmth in the mids. Changing out the Jensen speaker with an Celestion Gold would help. But I think a Princeton is not the lady you're looking for.

    Love this video. The comments prove that tone os subjective, bc I didn't have a clear winner but a clear loser in the vintage set, which others seem to love. That's the beauty of gear!!! 🙂

    Thank you for the video. A person on Etsy was trying to sell a heavier stainless neck plate stating the sustain would be better. It sounded counterintuitive to me. The extra weight is certainly not worth it.

    Roasted maple is a way to charge you more for the same

    • @haskitt
      @haskitt 16 дней назад

      That’s actually not true. Normal maple requires a finish which is time-consuming and expensive. Roasted maple requires no finish so a completed ready to go neck in roasted maple is less expensive than a finished regular maple neck. Also, they feel and resonate absolutely differently in the hands. The difference in tone is subtle, but it’s there.

    I've been meaning to post this here since... last August, 2023. First, off, I love my Spark Mini. This is nothing short of a dream come true for a perpetual beginner guitarist like myself. I highly recommend the Spark Platform. At this price point, the notion that I can download so many tones, and mess with all of the pedals and amps... is just too much fun. Unfortunately, I have this "hissing problem" on my Spark Mini as well. I reached out to Positive Grid's tech support back in August of 2023, included a link to this video, and this is a part of the email they sent me: ---- Thanks for your inquiry. We're thrilled that you enjoy the Spark MINI's various features! Nevertheless I'm sorry that there's a hiss in the MINI. I understand how frustrating that can be. When designing the Spark MINI, we set out to create a device that packs a wide range of features, has a small footprint, and isn't power hungry. We believe that the final design not only meets all of the requirements above, but also provides the best overall performance given the design parameters. However, in order fit all of the features into such a portable enclosure, the Spark MINI does come with a slightly higher noise floor that can be more noticeable under certain settings. If such behavior is affecting the overall experience of using Spark MINI, we suggest using a higher noise gate setting, and also lowering the treble in the amp/effect settings for a better playing experience. ---- So, that means I'm not holding my breath for a fix. Yeah, it kinda sucks... but I still really do love this thing. It's June, 2024, and considering this design flaw, I'm not sure if I would recommend the Spark mini to anyone. I hope this helps!

    I just bought the Dream 65. It’s going to work for me, but there are things that are different than I expected. I have owned a 1963 Vibrolux, 1967 Princeton and early 1970s Twin Reverb. There is hardly any clean head room on the pedal. It starts breaking up at 2 on the volume. Does a real Deluxe Reverb do that? I want it to be clean longer. I sure wish the tremolo had a separate knob like a real amp. I wish there weren’t so many features like the boost and speaker IRs. Simpler is better. But the sounds are great. Several awesome presets in the app.

    You can try reducing the treble level in the amp sim or EQ pedal in the app to decrease the noise. In such a small-sized amp, cutting off the high frequencies typically doesn't have much impact.

    Howdy Scott.....I enjoyed watching this...I've been down this road (partially)..I've only been able to demo the originals, the Regals, the MIM reissues and the MIJ reissues....the latter are not terrible but not quite in the class as the ones you've demo'd...Honestly, the only ones that, IMO, had a significant difference in tone were the Lollar Low wounds....they seemed to be a bit more open and less compressed......I've got 3 sets of the originals in parts casters...I had them all wax potted because they screamed like a little girl when a hit the pedal....I cant' say that some sounded significantly better than others...which is a testament to the the non originals.....well done sir...its hard to argue that one is better than the other... Another rabbit hole to go down with these is how they respond with 500k volume pots vs the 1 meg.....but thats a subject for another video..😁

      4 things: 1) Go listen to the studio version. only has one kick per repeat in the pattern. he did it differently live. 2) I wanted to ride 8ths on the left floor Tom because I thought it was fun, and there’s some of that in the studio version at times as well. 3) good luck doing flams with one hand tied. 4) I don’t care (ha) if you can do it better. I had a great time playing this, and that’s what I set out to do.

    Nice Vid, wish I watched it sooner. I got the Brandonwounds since the price was so much better and seems like a good company, but I could not believe how dark they were, don't really understand their decision to voice them like that, they're darker than any of my humbuckers. Got the Cunife based on your vids and swapped them in, they sound great!

    A lot of effort went into this comparison, which is much appreciated. Probably the most natural sounds available right now, but somewhat deliberately capped functionality-wise to extract more money. I'm pretty sure all these pedals are the same on the inside, and it's a bit user-hostile and frustrating to be artificially limited by the features UA wants you to use. All this functionality, and no way to access it while playing...

      Mine did it yesterday 5/17/2024. And this is the 3rd Mini from them. 1st one squealed loudly and couldn't stop it. 2nd one battery died after 2 weeks. This is my 3rd and I noticed that hissing yesterday. Too late to get a refund and everything they have sent me has a problem. When I hook up to this 3rd one via Bluetooth it tells me to update the software. I hook it up to my Windows laptop and go through the process and it says it's got the latest updates. So... Positive Grid. No quality control.

    • @haskitt
      @haskitt Месяц назад

      Hi Alan. Correct, my emphasis is not as Kreutzer intended. My first exposure to this piece was from Tomo’s video. He doesn’t say what piece it is or show sheet music/use a metronome. He plays it very straight, no emphasis on any notes, by design, I imagine. I transcribed it note for note from his video and decided I wanted to do a tutorial for people to learn it, it which point I decided I should figure out what piece it was. it was then that I learned it’s in compound meter and not 3/4. Performance was already recorded, and I had emphasized certain notes because they felt good, and played it pretty cleanly. To say I “totally fucked” it up I think is an overstatement.

    • @alanwebbguitar
      @alanwebbguitar Месяц назад

      @@haskitt Tomo got this piece of music from the same place I did. William Leavitt classical studies for pick style guitar. Now that you have the notes down, learn how to play it with the proper rhythm and it will mean so much more to you. I suggest you listen to some violinists As well. And stay away from the heavy metal shredders that are playing this with distortion and compression. No harm no foul…

    • @haskitt
      @haskitt Месяц назад

      Alan, you have to learn to read the room. This video is up for people who found the Tomo video and are interested in learning the notes as a warm-up. That’s all this video is for. Read the comments! I have played and worked on this piece literally hundreds of times every which way since I put this video up two years ago.

    I've never had a problem with too much midrange with p90s. I crank my amp dirty and roll the guitar volume back to between 3 and 5 and even the stock Gibson p90s in my LP Special have tons of sparkle and clarity, even more so with my Novo Serus J. My guitar volume is rarely above 5 unless I'm in Neil Young mode.

    I just subscribed. Awesome comparison, Scott - thank you. With the Lambertones, what value tone cap are you using for the neck pickup here? I ask because I just bought a set to replace my Lollar P-90s, which to me had a bit of an 'overwound' sound to them and the neck pickup was too dark for my playing, so I replaced the 0.22 cap with a 0.01 cap which helped, but still for sounding too deep and loud. Not sure what Kurtis recommends here. I have 500K Bourne pots btw. Appreciate your time, John
